We are looking for an Outreach Specialist to support multiple programs focused on energy efficiency and sustainability with an emphasis on serving historically underserved small business owners. Successful candidates will excel in the ability to motivate businesses to enroll, to skillfully communicate progress through our online tools and to collaborate with their team and our partners.
Key Responsibilities
As an Energy and Sustainability Outreach Specialist you will use your great sales and communications skills to recruit eligible business owners to join our programs and assess commercial spaces for energy efficiency and sustainability opportunities. Responsibilities include:
- Conduct outreach (in person and/or phone) individually and as part of ~monthly group campaigns to recruit eligible businesses to programs (>25%)
- Technical Energy Assessments: Assess facilities for installations, purchasing, and operations to drive sustainability and lower bills for participants, remaining as the main point of contact for enrolled participants from start to finish (>50%)
- Additional Duties (~25%):
- Diligent tracking of time and progress using multiple software and spreadsheet tools
- Review progress with and support the leadership team with other tasks as needed
- Support Green Business program implementation, including helping businesses certify (see ) and planning, promoting and presenting at events
- Pivoting to support teammates and multiple programs, with occasional travel across California
Required Skills and Experience
- Must be located in or willing to relocate to San Diego County
- Must have experience in energy assessment, outreach, and sales
- Energy efficiency or facilities auditing experience
- Database use, spreadsheets and data tracking experience required
- Very strong sales and communications experience, including written and verbal
Additional Requirements
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel outside San Diego County 3-4x year
- Demonstrated passion for helping the community and/or environment
- Is a go getter, fast learner, willing to wear many hats
- Self directed and ability to achieve work goals with minimal supervision
- Accustomed to balancing many priorities and tasks
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bilingual English / Spanish (or other commonly spoken language in San Diego County)
- Event planning experience
- Comfortable with public speaking and presentations
- Media experience (media relations, journalism, content creation, etc.)
- Hands-on light duty building maintenance skills or familiarity
- ASHRAE, LEED or other facilities energy auditor certifications a plus
