Edible Food Recovery

Helping Municipalities Reach
Organics Reduction Goals

Greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the decomposition of organic wastes in landfills have been identified as a significant source of emissions contributing to global climate change.

The State of California disposes of approximately 30 million tons of waste in landfills each year, which is considered to be one of the top contributors to the state’s overall GHG emissions. In order to reduce emissions and combat climate change, California passed SB 1383 in 2016, which mandates that municipalities decrease organic waste sent to landfills by 75% and a 20% increase in the diversion of edible food by 2025.
